WONDERMARK: THIS SUCKS

I'll admit that in this case my ten-second snap judgement is colored by prior knowledge of the strip in question. Wondermark runs on the Onion comics page, nestled between brother-in-clip-art Red Meat and Conservative Webcomic lameorama The Leftersons, and I have honestly never been sure whether the paper's editorial staff intends us to laugh with it as we do the former (or at least did as alternative rock fourteen-year-olds) or at it as we do the latter. The boring Random! Internet!! Humor!!!! AND ALSO OLD TIMEYNESS!!!!!! of Wondermark may not be as obvious a target for mockery and contempt as the sitting ducks that are the Lefterson family and Cathy En Espanol, but while the Onion may have declined a bit since the disappearance of T. Herman Zweibel and its abandonment of the greatest state in the union, the paper is pretty much still in the joke business and I'm afraid those are few and far between in this lame ass comic. Okay, on with the review; here's today's strip and here is what I make of it:

• This is like something someone who likes the Shins but don't get me wrong, NOT Garden State would throw together for the comics page of their college newspaper and get no comments on after posting it on their livejournal
  
• Old timey shit with anachronistic dialogue is Not Necessarily Funny
  
• Oh cool I didn't laugh
  

VERDICT: THIS SUCKS. IT IS OK TO LOOK AT IT IF YOU ARE READING THE PAPER VERSION OF THE ONION ON THE TRAIN BUT NOT TO LAUGH AT AND DEFINITELY NOT TO SEEK OUT ON THE INTERNET AND ABSOLUTELY NOT TO FORWARD OR "INSTANT MESSAGE" TO ME, EVER, I MEAN SERIOUSLY INTELLIGENT PEOPLE WHO I LIKE AND CONSIDER FRIENDLY ACQUAINTANCES DO THIS TO ME, WHAT'S WRONG WITH THE WORLD MAMA, PEOPLE ACTING LIKE THEY AINT GOT NO MAMAS
